MacDonald, Mary Catherine (Cathy) – Judique, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 26, 2012, in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital with family by her side. Born in Thedford Mines, Quebec, April 5, 1943, she was the eldest daughter of the late Colin and Madeline (MacDonald) Campbell. She attended school in West Mabou and St. Joseph’s Convent School (Mabou), and later went on to work at the Royal Bank of Canada (Inverness), a Law Firm (Port Hawkesbury), and the Department of Agriculture Office (Mabou), retiring from the latter after her marriage in 1973 to Lawrence MacDonald of Judique. She returned to work as the librarian at Judique Creignish Consolidated School until its closure in 2000. At this time, she also served as Administration Officer and later as Supply Officer for 2632 Judique Creignish Consolidated Army Cadet Corps. Following this, she conducted a detailed summer project for the Judique and Area Development Association, working out of the Judique Community Centre. A lover of Celtic music, she served on the Board of Directors for the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre (Judique) until forced to retire due to ill health. A faithful and practicing Catholic, she served her term as Eucharistic Minister for St. Andrew’s Parish in Judique, and worked on both Cursillo and Challenge weekends at St. Joseph’s Renewal Centre, Mabou. An excellent cook, she served many good meals to friends and relatives in her home. On her spare time, she liked to knit and crochet, and would never turn down a good game of Auction. She is survived by her husband Lawrence, Judique; daughter Carleen (Shane) Matheson, Judique; stepson Ron (Cathy) MacDonald, Newmarket, Ont.; stepdaughter Edna (Danny) MacDonald, Kingsville; brothers Carmen (Marie) Campbell, Mabou; Robert (Rita) Campbell, Valley View, Alta.; sisters Joan (Gerard) Ferguson, Halifax; Collena Nattrass, Kansas City, Mo.; Hughena (Donnie) Campbell, Calgary, Alta.; and also several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation will be Saturday, July 28 from 7 pm to 9 pm and Sunday, July 29 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm at the Judique Volunteer Fire Department Community Room. Funeral mass to celebrate Cathy’s life will be held on Monday, July 30 at 11 am, St. Andrew’s Parish Church, Judique, with Father Allan MacMillan officiating.
