F Greene Funeral Services Limited was founded in August of 1999, by John F. Greene, a native of Port Hastings and operates at 507 Bernard Street Port Hawkesbury Nova Scotia, in the former Rod Mac Donald Funeral Home; from there the Counties of Inverness Richmond, Antigonish and Guysborough, are served 24 hours a day with dignity and compassion.
John began in the Funeral profession in 1996, while in his final year of high school. He apprenticed under Walter J Whitty of the former W J Whitty Funeral Home Limited and with Richmond County Funeral Director Alex A. Morrison.
That summer John took a part time job with the firm before returning to study at NSCC Strait Area Campus, where he served as President of the Student Union and then on to Saint Francis Xavier University for one year. During the duration of his education John remained active in the profession assisting on weekend services both at the Whitty Funeral Home, and with Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home of St. Peter's
Following the closure of W J Whitty Funeral Home in June of 1999 , the need of a second funeral home to serve the town of Port Hawkesbury and surrounding area , was realized by John and on September 9th 1999 , (9,9,99) the deal was closed and the former W J Whitty Funeral Home was purchased by Green's Funeral Home .
Immediately interior remodeling had to be completed before opening and was completed in time for the first day of operations on September 25, 1999.
Located in a residential neighborhood, Green's Funeral Home provides its services in a comfortable home like atmosphere. It is decorated with soft pleasing colors and various prints and art work which reflect on the local area.
Green's Funeral home is very proud to be a Canadian owned independently operated funeral home, and as a result is a member of good standing in the Canadian Independent Group of Funeral Homes and also a member of the Funeral Services Association of Nova Scotia, where John served as President from 2003-2005
John is also a member of the Port Hastings Volunteer Fire Department for many years and serves as the departments recording Secretary.
